Last year I slipped and fell on the ice. Luckily my son was outside shoveling so he was able to help me into the house. Unfortunately the fall jammed my hip and spine and greatly exacerbated my existing spinal stenosis. Up until that point, I had been able to manage my back pain. It was never too much, and I always knew where my limits were. Sure I could go for a walk as long as it wasn’t too far and didn’t include any steep hills.
That all changed on March 6th, 2018. Walking anywhere became an issue. Standing in one spot for more than a minute or two was agonizing. Sleeping was painful. I went to Physical Therapy and learned some helpful tips. (It’s all about the core, baby.) I went to a physiatrist (this is a specialist that specializes in pain management) and got a bunch of steroid injections in my spine. Nothing helped long term and the steroids made my weight skyrocket!
Sure, they gave me drugs. But I really didn’t want to rely on them long term. And I was worried about the effect ibuprofen would have on my liver and kidneys over time.
My friends suggested that I start smoking pot for the pain, but smoking isn’t an option for me. I started looking into marijuana edibles, but they were really expensive and just completely knocked me out. Plus I didn’t feel comfortable going into a store where I had to show my ID just to walk through the door. I kept looking for different options to manage the pain, and to be able to do a teeny bit of exercise so that my body didn’t completely fall apart on me.
One day I was in my local hardware store and saw a little packet of CBD chocolate at the checkout register. I wondered if it would work and bought one. It had 10mg of CBD in it. I took it before bedtime and had my first sound night of sleep in ages. I got some more and started taking one at bedtime every day.

I started noticing that I could walk a little farther. Standing for too long was still excruciating, but I was at least able to load the dishwasher now. And sleeping? Sleeping through the entire night was now possible.
